Beautiful Croatia
Dalmatian Coast – June 2011
I laugh at ourselves sometimes especially when it comes to finding deals on airfares. Many times, these deals will cause other expenses, like an extra night at a hotel or a really long layover and extra meals at an airport. In June 2011, a business class award deal too good to pass up took us to Croatia for 8 days. Our focus for this short trip was the Dalmatian Coast.
In Trogir (not far from Split), we had a nice view from our accommodations. The weather was nice and the town very charming. The owner of our accommodations talked about hard working people and how he noticed people from some countries not quite as hard working as the people in Croatia. If you walk around the town, you can see evidence of the hard work at the impressive boat building and repair shops nearby.
We drove south admiring the coast for awhile on the way to catch a ferry to Hvar Island. In Hvar, we enjoyed a delicious pasticada with a light, pillow-like gnocchi. We then went on to Korcula Island where our hosts greeted us with a local wine and a plate of locally cured meat and cheeses. Of course, we had the fresh local seafood, but we are not fond of the grill cooking method that is popular here. On these islands, there were a LOT of boats and yachts to admire as we walked along the docks. The water was deep blue and beautiful and the weather invited us to walk and explore.

In Dubrovnik, we walked the walls of Dubrovnik and enjoyed the beautiful coast! We had a nice dinner somewhere, but I cannot remember much about that – too much on my mind or just too much wine. Oh well! I guess we will have to come back again.
